There's a Bright Side to Everything, Even COVID-19
and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
Here we are, in the middle of a world pandemic due to the dreaded COVID-19 (AKA Corona Virus). Lives are being lost, jobs are being taken away, schools are shut, businesses are closed, people are afraid to leave their homes, and we are at the mercy of some large institution finding a cure, so we can hopefully get back to our everyday lives. I keep reading, hearing, and scrolling past so many posts by people stricken with anxiety and an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. Our lives have been SHAKEN to the core. Why?
Although I am the first to admit that I am better off than a lot of people in the world, I have had some things taken away from me. My routine is completely out the window, my physical business has had to shut its door, and like most moms, I am now home with my child 24/7 as his main form of entertainment. I am cooking, cleaning, working from home, taking care of the dogs, and balancing it all without leaving my home other than for a short walk around the neighborhood, or my quick run to the store. Do you know what I find most interesting during this time? I have been the most peaceful within myself than I have been in a very, very long time.
I’ve been wondering why I feel so at ease when the rest of the world seems to be freaking out (understandably). After a couple of weeks, I think I finally have the answer. God needs his people to push PAUSE & reconnect with the real meaning of life again. He needs families to behave as families, even if that means confining us to the four walls of our home. He needs us to sit round a table and speak to our spouse and children. The excessive noise and constant chatter arounds us needed to stop for just a second so we can be present and hear our own thoughts. CLARITY needed to be brought forth so that we can reevaluate what is important to us. Ultimately, we need to get our homes in order.
My fellow readers, please lean into the adversity and find the strength to blossom during this world pandemic. Humans are not in control of much, or not as much as we typically lead on. Take control of your life, your mental health, your home, your business, or whatever it may be. Take control of the few things you can at this time, and hand the rest over to the man upstairs.
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
When is the last time you took a long bath, played a board game with your children, or tapped into the artistic being you once were years ago? Remember how good of a guitar player you were? Pickup the guitar and start strumming that bad boy. Whatever piece of you that was lost over the years, reconnect with that person & discover yourself again. We are ever evolving species, and are not meant to stay idle. What would life be like without growth through adversity?
I am here to say TAKE ADVANTAGE of every single situation that life throws at you. There is always a lesson to be learned, an old hobby to pickup, or a fresh new beginning before you. Whether or not you get something positive out of this depends solely on our mindset. Are you actively pursing life, or have you already shut the door?
